Data Governance and Management Workshop: Driving Digital Transformation
The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, in collaboration with Intelligent Projects Company, successfully organized a workshop titled “Data Governance and Management.” This initiative is a key part of the Ministry’s commitment to advancing digital transformation and enhancing data management efficiency across government institutions.
The Critical Role of Data in Institutional Development
The workshop highlighted the pivotal role of data in supporting institutional development and decision-making. It emphasized that data is now one of the most critical pillars of modern government work, serving as a fundamental basis for improving operational efficiency, developing services, and fostering innovation across various sectors.
Intelligent Projects Company delivered a comprehensive presentation on the concepts of Data Governance and Data Management, alongside global best practices for their implementation. A key focus was placed on the National Framework for Data Governance and Management issued by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology. The presentation outlined the compliance plan for its Phase 1 (P1) requirements, aiming for full readiness by 2026.
Data Governance: A Holistic, Enterprise-Wide Approach
The session underscored that Data Governance is a comprehensive, multi-dimensional field built on professional standards, knowledge, and methodologies.
This framework empowers government entities to enhance their capabilities in managing data, ensuring its quality and protection, thereby building trust in data-driven decision-making and supporting long-term digital sustainability.
The workshop stressed that the responsibility for data management is not limited to IT departments. Instead, it is a shared institutional responsibility that encompasses all administrative levels, given data’s direct impact on boosting performance efficiency and achieving inter-departmental integration.
Collaboration for a Data-Driven Future
The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of public-private sector integration in sharing knowledge and exchanging expertise. This collaboration is vital for building an integrated national data management ecosystem that supports the strategic objectives of Oman Vision 2040 concerning digital transformation and the knowledge economy.
